To learn more about their motivation and AI vision, we had a small conversation with Dr. Steffen Tomschke, Business Innovation Manager at OSP, during our Experience Day in Heilbronn.

IPAI: Steffen, it’s great to have you here! OSP is known for its commitment to advancing technology in e-commerce. Can you tell us more about how you see AI transforming the digital landscape for consumers?

Steffen: Absolutely, the development and integration of advanced AI technologies are pivotal in revolutionizing e-commerce. Our focus is on creating transparent and ethically reliable AI systems that empower businesses to deliver unique customer services.

Our vision is to support businesses with transparent AI systems to create unique shopping experiences for their customers. Collaborating within the IPAI community enriches this process and allows us to be part of impactful projects and innovation. It sounds like ethical considerations are at the forefront of your approach. Both you and Katrin Behrens mentioned the importance of responsible AI in your work. How does OSP ensure that AI remains ethically aligned while enhancing user experiences?

We prioritize transparency in our AI applications, ensuring that human judgment always takes precedence. Our processes are guided by regulatory frameworks, relevant laws, and ethical principles, including our Code of Ethics at the Otto Group. This oversight allows us to monitor performance and intervene when necessary.

That’s a robust framework! You also mentioned building partnerships to drive innovation in AI. Can you elaborate on how collaboration plays a role at OSP, especially within the IPAI community?

Collaboration is essential for us. We aim to share knowledge across industries, learning from both successes and challenges. The IPAI community offers a rich platform for this exchange, enabling us to implement and scale projects effectively.

It’s exciting to hear how you value cross-industry learning. You’ve been expanding your AI applications recently. What are some of the specific projects or areas where you’ve seen significant growth?

We’ve made substantial strides in developing AI tools and assistants that enhance both our internal processes and our product offerings. Our goal is to leverage AI to create highly personalized shopping experiences and optimize supply chains, particularly with innovative prototypes for generative AI.

It seems like you have ambitious plans for the future! Looking ahead, how do you envision the market evolving in the next decade as a result of these innovations?

In ten years, we expect a complete transformation of the market. By collaborating with IPAI, we hope to gain a competitive edge and continue supporting our clients with comprehensive solutions that adapt to their needs.
