The Open Day brought the construction project in northern Heilbronn to life for visitors. While work on the Steinäcker site has been progressing on schedule since the groundbreaking about eight months ago, guests were already able to get a glimpse of the first milestones: Following the completion of the floor slabs, the vertical construction phase for the first central buildings has now begun.
During the tour, three themed stations brought the vision behind the future buildings to life.

The Open Day brought the construction project in northern Heilbronn to life for visitors. While work on the Steinäcker site has been progressing on schedule since the groundbreaking about eight months ago, guests were already able to get a glimpse of the first milestones: Following the completion of the floor slabs, the vertical construction phase for the first central buildings has now begun.
During the tour, three themed stations brought the vision behind the future buildings to life:

This station highlighted the innovative concept of a completely car-free, sustainable campus. The planned underground logistics tunnel system drew particular interest: by shifting traffic below ground, it maximizes above-ground space for social interaction and enhanced quality of life. At the same time, efficient and sustainable transport links guarantee a seamless connection to downtown Heilbronn – whether through the expansion of public transport or modern cycling and pedestrian paths.
This station demonstrated how cross-building connectivity strategically fosters collaboration between research, start-ups, and industry. The first construction phase comprises a living lab, flexible spaces for start-ups, and a central office building featuring multi-story community areas. The premium quality of the indoor workspaces seamlessly extends outdoors, where pocket parks create green oases that serve as inspiring open-air workspaces and meeting spots. Beyond promoting social interaction, the district also sets new ecological standards. Highlights on display included the “sponge city” concept for decentralized rainwater management and a local energy supply system that utilizes industrial waste heat.
IPAI is intentionally designed with an open layout. As a vibrant, inclusive district featuring a communication hub and expansive open spaces, the campus delivers genuine value to society. It is a place where heritage meets the future: while archaeological excavations on the site uncover the historical roots of the region, the foundations are being laid here for the digital and economic future of the entire region—and far beyond.
